Frequently Asked Questions

How do I use Listen Mode?

To use Listen Mode:

  1. Tap the microphone icon to enable Listen Mode
  2. Grant microphone permission when prompted
  3. Start the rhythm trainer by tapping the golf ball
  4. Listen for three beats, then putt on the fourth beat
  5. See your timing accuracy displayed as a colored vertical bar

What do the colors mean?

The feedback colors indicate your timing accuracy:

  • Green (PERFECT!): Within ±50ms of the target
  • Light Green (Great): 51-100ms off
  • Yellow (Good): 101-150ms off
  • Orange (OK): 151-200ms off
  • Red (Too Early/Late): More than 200ms off

How do I change the BPM?

Use the "+" and "-" buttons at the bottom of the screen to adjust your rhythm speed. The BPM range is 70-80, which covers most natural putting tempos. Your preference is automatically saved for next time.

Why isn't my putter strike being detected?

If Listen Mode isn't detecting your putts, try these troubleshooting steps:

  • Make sure microphone permission is enabled in Settings → PuttIQ
  • Ensure your device's speaker volume is not too loud (reduces echo cancellation effectiveness)
  • Position your phone closer to where you're putting (within 2-3 feet)
  • Make a more pronounced sound when striking the ball
  • Try putting on a harder surface for a clearer sound

Can I use this on the golf course?

Yes! PuttIQ works completely offline, so you can use it anywhere - on the practice green, at home, or on the course. However, we recommend primarily using it during practice sessions to develop muscle memory, then applying that rhythm during your rounds.

What's the difference between sound types?

PuttIQ offers three sound options to match your preference:

  • Tone: Clean musical note (most precise)
  • Beat: Drum-like percussion (rhythmic feel)
  • Wind: Subtle whoosh sound (less distracting)

Choose whichever sound helps you focus best on your rhythm!

Do I need to create an account?

No! PuttIQ works without any account or login. Your settings are saved automatically to your device. This means you can start training immediately after installing the app.

Which devices are supported?

PuttIQ requires iOS 16.0 or later and works on both iPhone and iPad. Android support is coming soon! The app is optimized for landscape orientation to match your putting stance.

Why does the video pause between cycles?

The 2-second gap between video cycles is intentional. This pause gives you time to reset, prepare for the next putt, and review your previous feedback. It helps prevent rushing and maintains a consistent training pace.

How can I report a bug or suggest a feature?

We'd love to hear from you! Please email us at support@puttiq.com with your feedback, bug reports, or feature suggestions. Your input helps make PuttIQ better for everyone.
